Files can carry more information than the content you immediately see. This guide explains the practical details so you can choose what to keep, remove or verify before sharing.
Make and model fields
Many cameras and phones write manufacturer and model information into EXIF. A viewer may show values such as the camera make, model, lens and software used to create or edit the file.
What that means for privacy
A device model is not the same as a unique device serial number or your personal identity, but it can add context. Some users prefer not to publish unnecessary technical details alongside public images.
Software can leave fingerprints too
Editing applications may write a Software field or XMP properties. That can reveal part of the production workflow even when GPS is absent.
Decide based on purpose
For photography communities, camera settings can be useful. For a public product image or anonymous upload, they may not be. Keep a master and create a purpose-specific sharing copy.
Use the relevant BeOutMeta tool on a copy of your file, then review the result before publishing or sending it.
