A PDF can contain information that is not visible on the page. Common document properties include Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, Creation Date and Modification Date. PDFs can also contain an XMP metadata stream and a document identifier in the file trailer.
These fields can be useful for document management, but they can also reveal a name, software workflow or internal document history that you did not intend to share.
The remover rewrites the PDF and removes the document information dictionary where possible, deletes common XMP metadata references, removes PieceInfo application-private metadata references, and removes the PDF document identifier from the rewritten copy. After saving, the tool reopens the generated PDF in the browser and reports whether common metadata structures are still detected.
The visible pages are preserved. This is a metadata-cleaning workflow, not a visual redaction tool.
Choose your PDF, wait for local processing to finish, review the verification table, and download the new file. Open the downloaded copy in your usual PDF reader and check both the visible pages and Document Properties before sharing it.
Metadata removal does not hide visible names, addresses, comments printed on a page, watermarks, embedded attachments, annotation content or information inside images. It is also not a forensic sanitization guarantee. If a PDF contains highly sensitive, legal, medical, financial or classified information, use an appropriate professional sanitization and redaction workflow.
Rewriting a PDF can invalidate an existing digital signature. Password-protected or encrypted PDFs may also need to be unlocked in a trusted PDF application before this browser tool can process them. Always keep the original file until you have verified the cleaned copy.
The tool targets the common document info dictionary, XMP metadata references, PieceInfo application-private metadata references and the document identifier in the rewritten copy.
The tool is designed to preserve visible page content while rewriting the PDF metadata structures. Always review the downloaded copy before sharing.
No. Visible text, watermarks and page content are not metadata and require a separate editing or redaction workflow.
The core metadata-cleaning operation runs in your browser for supported PDFs and does not require an application-server upload.
Yes. Any rewrite of a digitally signed PDF can invalidate the signature, so signed documents should be handled separately.
