Files can carry more information than the content you immediately see. This guide explains the practical details so you can choose what to keep, remove or verify before sharing.
Start with a metadata viewer
Open the actual file you intend to publish, not just the original in your photo library. Exporting, messaging or editing can change metadata. Check camera fields, capture time, software and GPS coordinates when available.
Check dimensions and orientation
Dimensions are not private in the same way as GPS, but they matter for publishing quality. Confirm that the image has enough pixels for the target platform and that orientation is correct after any cleaning or conversion.
Inspect the image itself
Zoom in and look for text, labels, screens, reflections and background details. A perfectly clean EXIF block does not make a visibly identifying image anonymous.
Create a repeatable workflow
Archive the original, create a public copy, remove unnecessary metadata, inspect the copy, then upload that exact copy. Repeating the same checklist reduces mistakes when you publish often.
Use the relevant BeOutMeta tool on a copy of your file, then review the result before publishing or sending it.
